In this booklet you’ll find a translation of one of the most popular Swedish snaps songs “Imbelupet glaset står på bräcklig fot”. The music comes from an old popular chapbook song and used as background music for this page. These were part of the news-distribution in the olden rural times spreading news of mostly sad or frightful events that had occurred. In this case the original song “Kors på Idas grav” is about an unhappy Icelandic girl by the name of Ida who dies from grief when she from her shipwrecked and dying father hears that her beloved has deserted her.
The first verse is the original snaps song but students with poetic minds have added at least seven new endings fitting to the order of snapses. And I have made a very free interpretation making twelve different endings. But I would not advice anybody to take twelve snapses unless these are very small.
