Thank you for visiting my gallery of illustrations.
Helsinki
This selection of my work is drawn from various stages of my career as a classically trained illustrator and designer. My career began in Helsinki in 1985 where I spent several years working freelance following my training which took place between 1981 and 1986 at the University of Art & Design (/Koulutuskeskus), and then between 1994 and 1995 at the Lahti Institute of Design.
Freelancer
Since then I have continued to work freelance to ensure that my range of styles keeps pace with new developments in the business, technological and design worlds. This also ensures that I have the flexibility to approach customers' requirements with an original perspective, as well as enjoying the general freedom that such independence allows.
As with all artists I am naturally inventive and innovative, and I am constantly searching for new means of expression and new outlets for my creative energies. One outcome of my own search for diversity was that I began experimenting with digital media a number of years ago, in fact as soon as computer hardware became more capable of helping me with my concepts and their interpretation.
Mac
I am quite happy to admit that technology now plays an integral part in helping me realise a number of my projects. In fact I am constantly striving to develop new techniques and skills that will help me improve upon the life and feeling of canvas and paper as I work with pixels and digital artpads.
The applications I use in this quest are Fractal Painter, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and Quark XPress, along with numerous plug-ins, extensions and utilities.
Web
At the same time I am looking for ways to present as much of a broad spectrum of my work as possible in digital form so that I can harness my own recent "discovery" of the Web to bring it to a wider audience, and so to help play a part in capturing the imagination of those whose interest in such areas is just beginning to develop.
This Web presentation is just the beginning of my efforts to display a range of elements of my portfolio this way, but like so much else in life that is new and unfamiliar, this development is prone to the demands of my work and daily routine where there is precious little time to "down tools" and learn something completely new! As a result I will never think of these pages as being "finished" to my satisfaction, but I welcome the idea of being able to update them as opportunities arise.
Hopefully you will be able to visit again soon and then notice new exhibits, ideas and projects as they develop.
Projects
The galleries depict a selection of my work applied to a variety of high-profile projects already in my portfolio, - ranging from vital PR and corporate identity tools such as logotypes, product branding and Christmas cards, right through to more complex and detailed assignments such as book, magazine and newspaper illustration.
Stockholm
I am working out of Stockholm, and most of these exhibits are commissions from clients throughout the Nordic region, - but as you know, both "e-commerce" and digital delivery know no bounds, so I welcome new enquiries from farther afield.
