16th note Arpeggios. |
#3: The third lick is similar to #2, but we've opened it up a little by using tapping. The key to combining picking and tapping when things are going fast is, for me, to use the "how-do-you-do-finger" of you right hand for tapping. If you're gonna get rid of the pick every time you want to play around on the fretboard, it might result in a more contrived and less spontaneous use of tapping. Try keeping your pick close to, or even above, the fretboard so the 20'th fret is close at hand for the tapping note. With enough metal-distortion, picking atack won't be a problem ;-). Remember to be creative with these licks. You may discover that these licks are very technique-oriented - the music is up to you to create. Move around in different keys, use different arpeggios, play over different chords, switch rhythms - a 16'th note lick sounds great played as triplets! Vary the tapping-note - jump around frets 20, 19 och 17 for example. Master the technique and create something musically interesting. If you come up with something cool, please mail me.
