BACKPACKERS, is a great TV-program combining game and adventure.

The story of 5 young teams, taking the audience with them in their adventure through Europe to reach a final target: St Tropez in the south of France (on the French Riviera) just by hitchhiking…

Mainly destined to the European market due to the regulation laws in the U.S.A.
It's important to mention that this game is totally secure due to the presence of the TV crew constantly following the adventure of these 10 young wild fellows.

This game is a real journey. Hitchhiking is very common thing in Europe; most of us experienced it at least once. It's a Young and Fresh TV-program that will capture a wide audience because of its exiting adventurous nature. Imagine you watching their exiting life all the way down to St Tropez… Winning at the end a well-deserved reward.

Six youngsters going to St Tropez just with the power of their thumb!

The competition will be between three teams formed of one girl and one boy aged between 20 to 26 years hold.

It is important to indicate that the starting and ending points will obviously be different depending on the nationality of the channel adopting the show. It is evident that for the French television, it is probable that the starting point will be the Eiffel Tower and the final target Ibiza instead of St Tropez. Why? Because the final target must be in a foreign country to give an exotic touch to the show.

The importance of the starting point is essential. This program is to entertain people and also to surprise them. To make them think: "are they really going to hitchhike to St Tropez!!?" That is why this starting point must be THE most famous spot of the country broadcasting this TV-program, to make the situation even more odd and unbelievable.

The final target to reach is also a very important decision for the production. The name of the place has to have a strong meaning associated to holydays, sun, and escape.

We will base our example on this document, assuming that this show is aimed to be broadcasted on the Swedish national television.

  - 3 teams each formed of 1 boy/1girl aged between 20 to 26 year old.
  - Starting point: Stureplan , Stockholm.
  - Target point: St Tropez, France.

The three teams will have mandatory to go to their final target (St Tropez) via Paris.

The couple who will win the final prize will be the first to arrive to the final target (St Tropez) in the least time.

To keep the suspense until the end, the 3 teams will have to answer quiz questions all the way down to St Tropez, in each country in order to gain hundreds of free kilometers by driving the famous Cruise Mobile.

Each team will be followed by 2 cars.

 The Cruise Mobile

The Cruise Mobile is totally part of the game and of the show. It is a splendid red Corvette (convertible) that the candidates will be allow to drive only when they will answer the right questions to the daily quiz. That requires of course that all the candidates in each group have a valid driving license. The Cruise Mobile is an ideal element to shoot great scenes on board, showing these young people so happy to cruise instead of hitchhiking… It will also make our audience dream of living this great adventure.

 The Crew Mobile

The Crew Mobile is a van that will follow also our 3 teams (one van for each) to transport the crew, the equipment and assure the safety of the groups.

-The questions will have for theme: Geography, music, politic, and also             typical questions given to people passing their driving license, since the all trip will be on the road…

-Hitchhiking hours will be from 7am to 4pm.

-Every group will be given similar backpacks to put private belongings. As well as igloo type tents.

Sleeping overnight in tents will be part of the adventure and of course part of the show. We want to follow these youngsters 24hours/day to see how they are going to live this adventure physically and mentally. To see them preparing diner, talking about what they experienced during the day, to hear how they feel about this journey. To see also the relationship between these couples (that previously didn't know each other) change and maybe turn into a love story…

We want them to stop hitchhiking early so they can find a good and secure spot in proximity of regular camping site. It won't be shown in the show, but their tent will be placed next to the Crew tent for even more safety.

So what happen for example if a team is located in a residential area when it's camping time?

Well it's the crew's responsibility then to take them on board of the Crew Mobile (off the show) to place them in proximity of a camping cite. But it is important for the success of the show to not mix our teams with regular people inside a camping site. Focusing only on the teams is very important.

The prize for the team arriving first in St Tropez after this long and crazy adventure will be a trip around the world for each and 10.000$. In addition each team will win a weekend in a luxurious hotel in St Tropez.

The candidates participating to the show must be between 20 and 26 years old. Selected and interviewed so they are really motivated to do this challenge. They should not know each other before the beginning of this long journey. It is preferable that they physically match to add more excitement to the show by creating couples. When it comes to love, the audience always pay more attention…

This show is meant to be without any host to keep the authenticity and the fresh aspect of this TV-program. The questions during the 12 o'clock quiz will be in envelopes that they will have to open. If they don't answer correctly, they won't be given the key to the Cruise Mobile. As simple as that.

The coverage of the three teams must be as complete as possible. The role of the crew will be to stay back enough (50meters) so they can film them hitchhiking without scaring the people stopping to offer them a ride. From this distance (50m) it seems necessary to ask the teams to wear a microphone set, so we hear them clearly despite the traffic. Proceeding like this should give us a really good coverage. In addition "pin" cameras would be really good to follow their conversations with the people picking them up.

In post production, we will chose the best moment of all, and of course only the most exiting cuts will be broadcasted.

A TV-program like Backpackers is supposed to last between two and three weeks. It is actually easy to control the length of this program since we have the Daily Quiz option that will give the teams the possibility to progress faster. So if we give them 200 kilometers free every time, it is obvious that they will arrive faster than if you give them only 50…

The production cost of
Backpackers is very reasonable. It might of course vary depending of the TV-channel adopting this show (therefore we won't make any speculation) but it is certain that it will be a low price to pay compared to the entertainment that this TV-program will create.
