presents:
| Kompani Komedi* is the only
pure Commedia dell´Arte-company in Sweden.
Micke Klingvall, the art director of Kompani
Komedi, and 4 actors (Mikke Schirén, Johan
S Stark, Madde Näs and Aiva Båve
of whom Mikke still is a member of the group)
founded the company. Today Kompani Komedi is a
free repertory theatre with an international direction
and a pedagogical activity, which specializes in Commedia
dell´Arte. At the moment we have three Commedia dell´Arte-performances running ("Oratio på Pottan", "AAARRGH - Capitano Catastrofo Collosalle" and "Lezione dell´Arte"). All of the actors in Kompani Komedi have trained at the Theatrestudio in Stockholm, where they have worked with Commedia dell´Arte and physical theater training. All of them have completed other educations as well, and they have been working in other contexts. |
*Kompani older fr. companie, fr. compagnie,
ultimately a form of Lat. Pa'nis "bread"; the words primary
meaning is consequently "sitting". |

Kompani
Komedi's goal is "...to play, establish and
popularize Commedia dell´Arte in Sweden." We also want to spread and share our work with other companies like us in Europe and the rest of the world. The thought is to get to know Commedia dell´Arte deeper, its origins and forms, and through that learn about the foundations of western popular comedy, since we consider Commedia dell´Arte to be its foundation. In that way we want to develop our own style of playing and find the use for Commedia dell´Arte today. - "We want to be Sweden's contribution to the international Commedia dell´Arte-stage." To reach this goal we are searching different ways. Aside from our performances we give workshops in acrobatics, physical theatre training and, of course, Commedia dell´Arte. We also conduct seminars and lectures in Commedia dell´Arte, both in Sweden and abroad . |
| Up till now we
have arranged workshops with people like: Michael
Fields from Dell´Arte Players Company in USA,
Pino Costalunga from Teatro Immagino in Venice,
Ellen Pontara, Joseph Clark from Roy
Hart Theatre in France and Nola Rae
from London Mime Theatre. And Kompani Komedi (or Micke Klingvall) have given workshops for Edelvikens Folkhögskola in Burträsk, Teatro Glossa in Vicenza, Teaterhögskolan in Luleå, Studio Prospect in Caorle, ABF in Motala, Solidarity House in Lipnica, Teaterstallet in Stockholm among others. |

| The organization of Kompani Komedi is such that everyone who works in Kompani Komedi also has the opportunity - and that is also our wish - to become a member of the non-profit organization Kompani Komedi. To be a member one has to be in a running performance or taking part in the daily work in Kompani Komedi. To be part of the board one has to have been a member for at least one year. |

Kompani Komedi consists of its projects, its members and its ideas. All projects are independent and self-supporting, and every ensemble, together with its producer and director, drives itself both artistic and administratively/financially. Kompani Komedi is not a "fixed theatre-company" in that since that all its members participate in all performances. The unifying link and the base of all our work is Commedia dell´Arte. |
| Kompani Komedi
are trying as much as possible to be self-supporting. We produce,
market and sell our own performances and
other activities, with the aid of our producer, Anna
Fredriksson. All of the masks we use, in performances and workshops, are created by Micke Klingvall. |

Even though we are trying to be self-supporting in our activities, we are cooperating with a couple of partners, such as: Studio Ensemblen with whom we used to share Salong Katakomb, Teater Salieri with whom we used to share our office, the Theatrestudio where we all met, and where Micke and some of the actors teach, Gaysha who makes the most of our costumes and Studiefrämjandet who have always supported us financially. |
| Kompani Komedi have during all this time been financed almost exclusively by its own work, performances and pedagogical work. In that way Kompani Komedi has really been a "free theatre company" - independent of contributors. One big exception is Pelle Wisten and Studiefrämjandet, who has always been a great support. |
