I want to share my experience about halflife by writing a small review about the game and tell something about what you will meet in your quest for survival.
The game begins as you travel inside a huge complex where you are working as a scientist. There you will conduct an experiment about some strange material. Of course the experiment goes wrong, deadly wrong. Monsters pour in to the complex killing everything that moves. That's the story in short terms. But it doesn't end there. The military tries desperately to control the situation. And that includes killing everything that moves to. You have to fight both the monster and the military. I found it most amusing to hear the military talk to each other trough radios about "Freeman", that's you, when I went on. They are very intelligent and can fool you if you don't watch it. They use real tactics and don't rush towards you like the older 3D games monster did. What I really liked to is that most monster could be killed with one shot if you use the right weapon. The feeling running down a corridor with your machine-gun blasting soldiers like popcorn is unbeatable. There is many special weapons in the game, not only that you could carry, but you could find heavy machine-guns fixed to the floor that you could maim hordes of monster with.
One thing that I don't like in the game is the end battle against the superior leader of the hordes. It´s a huge thing that take forever to kill. During that time you get attacked by other monsters and if you don't cheat you don't stand a chance. Well, if you save a lot and try to solve the problem of killing it bit by bit you might make it. I did eventually. It was tough, too tough. I would have liked it more if there had been a alternative way too to stop the creatures to enter our world. And then I would like to have a go at the military leaders that ordered everybody to be killed. :)
Well, the overall feeling to run trough corridors, tunnels, water and shooting everything that moves is as always very good. I used a 450 MHz Pentium II processor with 8 meg ATI RAGE PRO LT card and that helped a lot to make it even more fun. But there is of course nothing like the feeling when you go up against other players in a network. That is "Jihaaaaaaa!!!!!".
Buy the game today and start the slaughter as soon as you can. But don't forget to have at least 300 MHz computer with a decent 3D card.
