This island could be a place for offering Ayurveda or Herbal treatment to visitors from far and close. Or a private escape from a busy and intense life! The island Naiduwa is situated in the river Maduganga in south west Sri Lanka.

The setting is relaxing and calm but you still have close access to communications when you feel to look around.

Although Maduganga is referred to as a river, it resembles more a lagoon or an estuary in appearance. It opens to the Indian Ocean approximately 80 km south of the capital Colombo and 35 km north of the town Galle. Within the Maduganga there are 15 islands of diffent sizes, of which Naiduwa can be referred to the middle group. Naiduwa is however differing from the other islands by its' height; From the highest position there is a wonderful view over the river and its surroundings.

Maduganga river is characterized by large open surfaces of water with many banks as well as several of the islands embedded by green Mangroves of many species.
There is a rich variety of birds with many species of water birds. Maduganga is because of its brackish water rich in fish, prawns and crabs from which the fishermen in the area is totally dependent for their existance.





Naiduwa is a private island of Madu Ganga, the size of 7,5 acre/1200 perches, about 80 km south of Colombo.

Reachable by boat (20 minutes from highway Colombo-Galle). Fringed by green pristine Mangrove. From the elevated top there is a magnificient view over the lake/river. Carries a very interesting story.

45 km from World Heritage city of Galle. Close to Hikkaduwa with it' famous coral reefs. Only 4 km from Ambalangoda which is famous for masks handicrafts and its' Mask Museum.

Moonstone mines are only 9 km away. Several turtle hatcheries are situated along the coast nearby. Kothduwa Island with ancient Buddhist temple nearby in the same river and Buddhist temple in Balapitiya.

Because of its location it is ideal as basis for excursions/round trips to other parts of Sri Lanka.

Maduganga is an unspoiled lagoon with many important ecological characteristics, and supports a rich biodiversity composed of mangroves, a diverse flora, fish, amphibians, reptiles, avifauna, mammals, butterflies and molluscs. Many of the species are endemic (exists only here and in Sri Lanka, nowhere else in the world).
