SUGGESTIONS TO PARTICIPANTS OF COURSES

Medicina Alternativa staff respectfully welcome you and we wish you an enjoyable and rewarding stay in Sri Lanka. We would like to respectfully make some suggestions, which will help to make your visit enjoyable, rewarding and useful.
  1. COURTESY:

  2. Courtesy to patients and staff at all times will naturally create a return of courteousness and respect for you. You, as an ambassador of your country, are an honoured guest in this country. The patients and staff consider you as a highly respected clinician and a welcome guest. All relationships with patients should be strictly professional.

  3. DRESS CODE:

  4. Suitable clean and neat clothes and polished shoes should be worn. Jeans, miniskirt and beachwear (slippers, etc.) are not suitable for clinic wear. Cutex, perfume and lipsticks may antidote homoeopathic remedies and, therefore, should be avoided. It is better to avoid jewellery as poor patients too attend clinics. Medicina Alternativa tailor supplies suitable dresses made to measure. It is suitable to wear a Medicina Alternativa white shirt for clinical use. Cost from U.S.$ 10. Students should be clean shaven or beards trimmed.

  5. EQUIPMENT:

  6. Students will be given a locker, and equipment for their use during the course. They should provide themselves with their own stethoscope and knee hammer.

  7. TRANSPORT:

  8. * Three wheelers accommodating (3 average persons) are available in front of the hotel. This one-way fee is about Rs. 75/- to Rs. 100/-.

    * Public and private buses operate frequent services to the Clinics and Lecture Hall.

  9. HOURS:

  10. Time Table
    Morning: (Approximate times) :
    8.30 a.m. - 1.30 p.m. Clinical lectures and Patient treatment
    Afternoon:
    LUNCH BREAK AND REST PERIOD (SELF STUDY TIME)
    Evening:
    5.00 p.m. – 7.45 p.m. Clinical Practice (Deqi Clinic)
    8.00 p.m. – 9.30 p.m. Evening Lecture (Feng Shui Clinic)

  11. PUNCTUALITY:

  12. Punctuality to clinics and lectures is important as it will maximise your sharing of knowledge, the services you render to the patients and the experience you gain. The clinics work 6 days of the week.

  13. EQUIPMENTS:

  14. Electro-Stimulators, lasers and other equipment for treatment of patients are available with the Registrars. They must be returned after use to the respective persons. Needles and container for patients are available with the Registrar

    Note: Patients should not be allowed to treat themselves with equipments. Practitioners should not give lasers or any other equipment to the patients in order to treat themselves. This is strictly forbidden.

  15. STERILIZATION:

  16. a) STERILIZATION OF NEEDLES: Needles should be well washed in running water, then enclosed in the container with the lid closed and boiled for 30 minutes or heated in an oven for 5 minutes at more than 120° centigrade.

    b) STERILIZATION OF PLUM BLOSSOM NEEDLES: Plum blossom needles have to be washed well in soap and water. As most plum blossom needles have plastic handles, do not put them in the oven.

  17. SPOONS:

  18. (a) Metal for massage ointment (b) plastic for lactose. Please wash plastic spoon immediately after use and replace.

  19. PATIENTS:

  20. Should be instructed to leave their jewellery at home. Better results are obtained when jewellery, watches, shoes and socks are not worn during acupuncture treatment.

  21. GIFTS:

  22. No gifts or donations are accepted by Medicina Alternativa from patients or any other donors. If an unsolicited gift is brought it is best to be distributed among the other (poor) patients.

  23. FEES:

  24. The full course fee is U.S.$ 1000, which is inclusive of Certificate and Examination (obtained) fee. The concession fee does NOT include any certificate fee. A bursary does not include the certificate fee.

  25. PAYMENTS:

  26. All payments may be made by Credit Card.

  27. RESIDENCE:

  28. Four weeks (28 days) residence is compulsory during the period of the course at the students residence as this is a residential program, authorized by the Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The health authorities do not permit any food to be brought to the hotels from outside.

    Also, indicate to them your room number as soon as you check into the hotel, so that private calls can be channelled without delay.

  31. TAXES:

  32. (a) Service Charge (15%)
    (b) Goods & Service Tax levied on all payments i Sr Lanka by the Income Tax Authority.

    Service-charge and Goods & Service Tax are always added to the bill in all restaurants (which pay income tax to the Government).

  33. SECURITY:

  34. A locker is allocated for your valuables and money at the students’ residences. To avoid pickpockets, you are advised not to carry significant amounts of money in crowded buses. It is recommended that you retain your money in travellers cheques (U.S. Dollars are well accepted at all places). Please do not bring valuables to the Clinics or Lecture Halls, as they are public places.

  35. SUBSTANDARD NEEDLES:

  36. Substandard needles, counterfeit stimulators and xeroxed certificates may be offered to you by touts. Please do not get cheated.

  37. DEPARTING:

  38. When departing from the Clinic at the end of the course, kindly leave your Forward Address, e-mail Address, Telephone & Fax Numbers.

  39. VISAS:

  40. Declare yourself as a tourist at the Colombo Airport and you will be given one month visa. (Indian and Pakistani travellers should obtain a visa from their home country). The visa can easily be extended at the Colombo Immigration Office.

  41. YOUR SUGGESTIONS:
