It was only 13 teams that showed up to participate in the first world cup finals, maybe because of the long voyage for the european teams.
France, Belgium, Romania and Yugoslavia where the only european teams that made the 3 months long trip over the atlantic. It was a very rainy competition and all the games where played in Montevideo, so the fields where in less than perfect shape.
In the final Uruguay was to meat Argentina, each side wanted to use its ball, the referee allowded Argentina to use its ball in the opening half and the Uruguayans theirs in the second. The Argentines, with their ball, took a 2-1 halftime lead.
Useing their ball in the second half, the Uruguayans rallied with 3 unanswered goals.
4-2 was the result and the organizing country Uruguay became the first team to lift up the Jules Rimet trophy and earn a star on their jersis.
