a. --- Create Fedora5 disks ---

1. Download Fedora5

# mkdir /fedora5
   Use one of Fedora download mirrors on the web:
   http://rhold.fedoraproject.org/Download/mirrors.html
   Data retrieve from: 5/i386/iso	
   (Be sure, that this is a recomended mirror!
    Compare the SHA1SUM with equivalent file on other mirrors)

   Using DVD: Download FC-5-i386-DVD.iso into /fedora5
   Using CD:  Download FC-5-i386-disc1.iso ... FC-5-i386-disc5.iso into /fedora5
   (Att! Totally 3.2 GB of data. At 50 kb/sec - total time 17 hrs)
   Download the SHA1SUM file containing the checksums.	

2. Check the integrity of downloaded files
# sha1sum  /fedora5/FC-5-i386-DVD.iso   /* for DVD */
# sha1sum  /feora5/FC-5-i386-disc1.iso  /* for CD */
..
# sha1sum  /fedora5/FC-5-i386-disc5.iso

Compare the computed checksums with the specified ones
in th SHA1SUM file. If equal, data was downloaded properly.

3. Crteate a copy of boot.iso using the FC-5-i386-disc1.
# mkdir /iso
# mount -o loop -t iso9660 FC-5-i386-disc1.iso /iso
# cp /iso/images/boot.iso /fedora5/boot.iso
# umount /iso

4. Burn the installations discs.
   Use the writable DVD or CD driver.
   (On linux machines the xcdroast-0.98alpha15-1.i386.rpm
    can be installed from http://xcdroast.sourceforge.net/RPMS/a15/fedora-1/)

   Burn the boot.iso on boot_disc. (For both DVD or CD)
   Burn FC-5-i386-DVD.iso onto disc1 in case of DVD
   Burn FC-5-i386-disc1.iso ... FC-5-i386-disc5.iso on disc1 - disc5
   in case of CD.

b. --- Install Fedora5 ---

1. Insert the boot_disk and restart the system.

   Choose a Language   (select language) [OK]
   Keyboard Type       (select keyboard type) [OK]
   Installation Method (Local CDROM)     [OK] 
     CD Not Found      (insert disk1)    [OK]
   CD Found - Normally test not needed   [Skip]

   Fedora installation display appares
   (You can select Install Fedora Core
    or Upgrate existing installation.)
   Install Fedora Core
   [Next]
   
   (Remove linux partitions on selected drives and
   create default layout.
   x Review and modify partitioning layout - to check disk spacing)               
   [Next]

   Warning!
   [Yes]

   Disk info appares. Check Mount points and other systems selection.
   (Att! If linux only in use, You should have at least 3 partitions:
    boot - min 120 mb,  mount point  "/boot"
    swop - min 350 mb,  no mount point
    main - rest of available size,  mount point "/"
    If other system in use (windows), do disk partitioning first
    install windows on one partition and use others for linux installation)
        
   If other system (Windows) on one of partitions, point to this partition
     Edit and setup Mount point (ex: /win)
     [OK].
   You should have / as Mount point for main partition
   and /boot for boot partition.
   if all Mount points ok  
   [Next]

   The GRUB boot loader will be installed on ....
   [Next]

   Network devices
    (edit the eth0 device)
    [Edit]
       Deselect Configure using DHCP
       Specify IP Address: (ex: 192.168.0.10)
       Specify Netmask: (ex: 255.255.255.0)
       [OK]
    Set the hostname (ex: linux1)
    [NEXT]
    Error with data - No Gateway
    [Continue]
    Error with Data - Primary DNS
    [Continue]
    
  Time zone
    Select Your time zone
    [Next]

  Root Passwd
    Enter Root password (twice)
    [Next]

  Software selection
    x Office and Productivity
    x Software Development
    Customize:
      Applications>Editors>emacs
      Applications>Graphical Internet>gftp
      Development>Development Tools>ddd
      Development>Xsoftware Development>openmotif-devel
      Servers>FTP server>vsftp
    [Next]   

  Begin installation
   You can still go back and modify all menues
   If next selected, installation starts.
   [Next]
   Installation starts, follow the process
   and swop the disks if requested.
   (Total time needed ca 60 min)

  Installation complete
   Remove the disk
   [Reboot]

c.--- Fedora5 started first time ---

Remarks:
  When Fedora5 loaded and You need to Add/Remove Software
  the default mode is the YUM retrieve and update from the web.
